University refugee students receive free medical coverage thanks to the Assistència Sanitària programme.

Assistència Sanitària renews its commitment to Lebanese university refugee students

The health insurer continues to provide free medical coverage as part of a programme that has enabled 18 young refugees to resume their university studies.

Assistència Sanitària has renewed its commitment to the Lebanese refugee student hosting programme, an initiative led by the Generalitat of Catalonia in collaboration with several universities and international organisations. Following successive annual renewals, the insurer will continue providing free medical coverage to students participating in the programme.

Commitment to education and health

Since its inception, this collaboration has guaranteed access to healthcare—a requirement for obtaining a student visa—for a total of 18 young refugees, mostly of Syrian origin, but also Palestinian and Pakistani, who fled armed conflict in their home countries and were residing in Lebanon. Thanks to the programme, they have been able to continue their higher education at various catalan universities.

“As doctors, we believe in knowledge as a tool for transformation. This agreement is a natural extension of our commitment to education and social improvement,” said Dr. Ignacio Orce, president of Assistència Sanitària, when formalising the new renewal of the agreement.
