Caring for your hair and repairing it at the end of the summer
Four simple tricks to revitalise your hair and restore its shine after the holidays.
Summer is many people’s favourite season due to the days that can be spent under the sun, at the beach or by a swimming pool, but we must keep in mind that radiation, salt water and chlorine are not our hair's allies, as they can lead to weak, dry, hair that breaks. UV rays weaken keratin and chlorine dries hair by removing the natural oils that protect it, and salt dehydrates and weakens hair by causing friction on the scalp.
How to avoid hair damage?
Although awareness of skincare has increased in recent years, and most people now appreciate the importance of healthy skin, hair care is still a neglected issue for many of us.
For this reason, it is important not to wait until the damage is done. Take preventive action during the summer to take care of your hair, such as: using scarves or hats as a shield against the sun, and hair sunscreens while bathing (remember that the scalp also burns!), not combing your hair right after getting out of the water, rinsing out salt and chlorine by taking a shower, keeping your hair hydrated and not putting it into a bun while it is still wet, among many others.
But if September has arrived and your hair is looking rough and dull, don't worry: add the following simple tricks to your daily routine to revitalise your hair and have it looking great for the rest of the year.
tricks to revitalise your hair
Cut it short

It's not always necessary, but sometimes it may be the best option. The ends usually endure the heaviest damage and tend to end up split after the holidays, so it is advisable to trim them to enable hair to grow healthy and strong. Furthermore, your hair stylist will moisturise your hair with products that are right for your hair type, bringing back your hair’s shine. People with coloured hair are more likely to suffer a change of colour due to chlorine. If we want to restore it, it is advisable to use a natural hair dye.
Establish a haircare routine

Set up a haircare routine at home. After returning from holiday, the main focus should be nourishing and moisturising your hair. It is advisable to use castor oil to seal the ends and moisturise with coconut oil or argan oil. You can also use a hyaluronic acid serum to repair your hair after the summer. As for shampoo, make sure it has natural ingredients, and prevents frizzy hair. Don't wash your hair every day, as this will overstimulate the sebaceous glands and increase oil production, and don't put it up in a ponytail or bun when it's damp.
Avoid heat and chemicals

Don't use a hairdryer or straightener. Give your hair a break and, if you need to dry it, use the cold air setting, which causes much less damage. Discard products containing parabens, silicones, paraffin or waxes, and don't use mousse or hairspray. These are products that damage the health of your hair, and it is important that you give it a break from chemicals to restore its health.
Take care of your body and mind

Take care of your body and mind: Eating foods containing biotin, vitamin A and zinc will help our hair stay healthy. It is also important to get as much rest as possible, maintain a balanced diet and exercise. Stress can accelerate hair loss and dandruff, as well as causing itching, so it's just as important to look after our mental health as our physical health.
Ultimately, it is important to take care of your hair all year round, but especially during the summer, when it is more vulnerable and more exposed to external threats. With the right prevention and routine, we can keep our hair looking strong and shiny and avoid frizz and hair loss.
